The AHP service exists to:
- Develop and disseminate standardised collaborative guidelines that support best practice in neonatal care, embedding new initiatives and translating research into practice. This supports colleagues to meet complex needs of newborns and their parents, wherever they may be within the West Midlands Neonatal Operational Delivery Network. Guidelines are under continual review to ensure best practice is implemented and standardised across the network.
- Identify training needs and deliver education programmes and develop supporting resources. Education is provided at many levels including induction training, neonatal nursing courses, cotside teaching, ward rounds and up-skilling new and existing AHP, medical, nursing & all NNU staff. AHPs within the network will teach/present at network meetings, national courses and events as requested.
- Network AHPs have an overview of strategic planning across the WMN ODN for AHP services, advising on and supporting recruitment, training and retention of staff. They will work as an integral part of network multi-professional task and finish groups. Therapists are also members of national professional bodies and are available as a clinical and non-clinical resource of information for colleagues.
- WMN ODN AHPs will advise on individual clinical cases that fall outside standard guidelines either cotside or remotely, via existing AHPs where available.
