There is a quiet room for expressing breast milk and screens to provide privacy at the cot side. Free loan breast pump whilst your baby is in SCBU. Please return it before discharge. Susan Everall and Kirstie Coppock are the main breast feeding nurses for SCBU, but all nurses are trained to support breastfeeding. Breast feeding support nursery nurses are available when you go home.
Play area in the parent’s sitting room with toys, books, colouring, TV and DVD’s. Please supervise children at all times.

Housekeeper Michaela Wyatt will help you with car parking permits, booking lunch on the maternity ward, access facilities.
From the main hospital entrance (Accident and Emergency entrance after 8pm), SCBU is located on level 2 in the main building. Press the red button and wait until someone answers. We can see via a camera link who is at the door, so please state your name and your baby’s name. We will then release the security door to for you to gain entry. Please ensure there is no one behind you that you mistakenly allow entry.

The ward manager, or nurse in charge of shift, is available to address any concerns or complaints to ensure your stay is as stress free as possible. If you wish to speak to someone outside SCBU, then Patient Advisory Liaison Service is accessible at hospital reception. We welcome your feedback.
The doctors do a ward round every morning and you are invited to stay to discuss your baby’s care and progress. An appointment can be made to address your baby’s care at a mutual convenient time.
Between 9am-11am every morning.
Rest time 14:00-15:00 each day. However, we encourage reduced noise and light levels.
